Wecome to Solar Fever, the online arm of RME Renew My Energy. Solar Energy is becoming more and more popular with the Government RECS rebate and generous feed in tariffs (especially if you are in ACT), but did you know that these rebates are not going to be around forever?
That’s Right! Just last week, the Government announced that the RECS rebate that had a multiplier of 5 will decrease to a multiplier of 3 this 1 July 2011, one year earlier than planned and 2 multipliers down due to the increasing popularity of solar energy. This means that the upfront rebate will decrease by a whopping 40% (approximately $2,400).
This announcement was then followed by the introduction of the carbon tax that will commence 1 July 2012. By that time the rebates will reduce, and the question will change from “Can I afford solar?” to “Can I afford NOT to get solar?”. It will be much cheaper to go solar than to buy coal powered electricity.
