State Feed in Tariffs

Everybody loves this part!

This page displays the different feed in tariffs for all the states in Australia. A feed-in tariff is a premium rate paid for electricity fed back into the electricity grid from a designated renewable electricity generation source like a rooftop solar PV system or wind turbine. At present, feed-in tariff regulations for renewable energy exist in over 40 countries around the world. Feed in tariffs are usually up to 3 times above the normal electricity unit cost.

Feed in Tariffs are one of the main reasons of financial benefits of getting a Solar Energy System installed in your home. For example a 1,5Kw System can have a payback period of less than 2.5 years from the GROSS Feed in Tariff in NSW.

Therefore financially there is no valid reason of not getting this solar energy system up on your roof unless you have no space or it is impossible to get solar system due to shading or any other reason.

Point 1: The support and incentives from State & Federal governments are there for Australian home owners to use. It would be a false economy not to take the offer.

Point 2: Once your system is installed and you are connected to the grid, you will have an agreement with the electricity retailer for the Feed in Tariff program. Once the agreement is in place, you will be covered for the remaining term of the program.

Point 3: Get it now before the programs or incentives are reduced or gone, do you think the government never cancels or changes their mind? So hurry, get it now before they do.

Note: NSW Gross Feed in Tariff program is due to be reviewed after 7 years from the start date or when quota reaches 50MW capacity which ever occurs first. So hurry before it is too late. Once again this is another urgency of getting it quick especially if you are in NSW.

State governments have their own program as you can see in the below table:

NSW’s bigger advantage in Feed in Tariff

NSW has a bigger advantage in feed-in tariff because of the greater credit given for every kWh. $0.60 is paid per kWh on a gross basis for a maximum system size of 10kW. This is significantly higher than the other states since they average about $0.40/kWh. Also with the feed in Tariff for NSW being a Gross metering system you will get a much higher credit than those states on net metering system. A gross metering system allows you to sell back ALL the power your solar system produces, not just what is left unused.

Example:

This is the easiest way to estimate how much you will get annually:

On Gross Calculation in NSW:

1Kw System should produce around 4Kwh per day so 4Kwh X 60c = $2.40/day in average (Based on 4 sunlight hours)

1.5Kw System should produce around 6Kwh per day so 6Kwh X 60c = $3.60/day X 365Days/Year = $1,314/Year (Based on 4 sunlight hours)

1.5Kw System should produce around 7.5Kwh per day so 7.5Kwh X 60c = $3.60/day X 365Days/Year = $1,642/Year (Based on 5 sunlight hours)

So in this sample, if we have 4-5 sunlight hours daily you should be getting between $1,314 – $1,642 per year.
